Traveling is different these days. Very different. Now that vaccines are rolling out, however, it’s not impossible anymore, and Nic von Rupp decided to see what it’s like. He booked a flight to Indonesia and found out first hand how difficult it is.
“Traveling to Indonesia used to be as easy as booking flight the night before,” he said. “Now with the COVID crises and numbers spiking, Indonesia went into full lockdown with crazy restrictions to enter and travel through the country. We had no idea what we were getting ourselves into when we booked Indo as our travel destination.”
Right now, Indonesia requires a few things from travelers. According to von Rupp, first, you need proof that you’re vaccinated. You need a negative PCR test for 72 hours along with a business VISA. That’s followed by an eight-day quarantine in a hotel in Jakarta. Once you jump through all the hoops, though, you’re in Indonesia, which is a good place to be — especially for a surfer.
After a VISA nightmare that made them push their trip, Nic picked up a few fresh surfboards from the Polen factory in Portugal. He packed his bags, headed to the airport, and flew off for a much-needed surf trip. He’s got a special relationship with Indonesia, and some of his best waves have been there. Especially one session at Kandui in particular. This trip, however, was a whole different animal.
