Winter is coming. Recently, we’ve seen the boardriders of Hawai’i have been hailing the onset of swells to the North Shore, but that’s not all that’s in store for the season. From the other side of the world, big wave charger Nic Von Rupp logged an opening session at the biggest wave in the world: Nazaré.
“It wasn’t huge, but it was still 20-foot out there. Just good to turn on some lines, try some different boards, try some airs,” summed up Von Rupp afterwards. However, while we all know that’s not nearly as big as Praia Do Norte can get, Nic explained that this is the type of session you have to log in order to get ready for when the true monsters roll in.
“I feel like Nazaré is one of those places that you just gotta train,” he continued. “There’s a couple sessions that you just have to sacrifice to be ready for the 100-foot day. Whenever that 100-foot day comes, you want to be dialed in with your equipment. You want to be dialed in with your team, with your driver, with your spotter. All the energy wants to be concentrated for that moment.”
