The Inertia

Usually Nic von Rupp is seen in heavy water, but he’s not above checking out a chlorinated break or two. Recently, the big wave surfer made a pilgrimage to Munich to check out Germany’s latest and greatest wave pool: O2 Surftown MUC.

The trip was part of a recent promotional push for the pool, which has been getting a lot of attention by flying out some of the world’s best wave riders to check out what appears to be a pretty fantastic wave. We’ve already seen Blair Conklin at the landlocked facility a few times, and by this point he may have proven the wave is the world’s most skimmable pool. True to form, Conklin showed up once again in von Rupp’s latest YouTube video, though this time he was accompanied by Weird Waves pioneer Dylan Graves and a few other notable riders who took to the water.

“As a young kid competing for Germany around the world, I never imagined I’d be catching waves in landlocked Munich,” summarized von Rupp in the caption, “But here we are — surfing a wave that’s been a long time coming. It’s exciting to witness the evolution of surfing in Germany, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for the next generation of German surfers.”
