The Inertia

Yes, the Wedge gets more than 90 percent of the surf media’s attention and coverage when the words “Newport Beach” are involved. This little URL itself contributes heavily to that. But one wave a surf town does not make.

Of course, if your familiarity with this Orange County town goes beyond internet scrolls and wipeout reels, you know there are ridiculously fun waves to find in its 10 miles of coastline. And this late-October day is a prime example of how much fun we’re talking about.

“Mitchell Grant, Sage Burke, and Eimeo Czermak took full advantage of a fun sandbar,” local videographer Brent Weldon told The Inertia. “I saw the waves were pumping early so I told @simple_drone to get over here ASAP and it was game on to film for this collaboration.”

The trio scores. Arms are raised victoriously, celebrating empty barrels passing by, near doggy-door escapes, and one deserved claim from Grant, who had been out of the water for months before this session. It’s fair to say this would be one worth relishing if any of us spent four straight months on land without a wave, only to be welcomed back with a session like this one.
