The Inertia

Just before Christmas, something happened in New Jersey. The waves went OFF. You may have seen a bit of footage here and there — the internet is quick to show the world just about everything — but it’s likely that it was just a tiny glimpse at a perfect wave. As we all know, however, that’s rarely how surfing works, especially in New Jersey. Sure, there will be a few diamonds in the rough every now and then, but when a swell like this one slams the East Coast, you’re going to have to work for that diamond. Which is very well proven in this 10-ish minutes of shaky footage from Jersey Craig.

As you’ll see, there weren’t too many takers on the day in the video, above. For good reason, too — the current was absolutely ripping and the waves were shifty, to say the least. But a few brave souls had a look and decided that days like this don’t come along too often, so they threw their hats in the ring and gave it a go. It’s likely that they don’t regret it in the slightest, even if all they got was a good working.
