The surfing world is a small one. Way back in 1991, when Kelly Slater had a head covered in hair and Daniel “Tomo” Thomson wasn’t even in his teens, the two met at Lennox. At the time, neither of them knew what the future held.

Now, all these years later, they have had a large hand in shaping not only the boards under our feet, but shaping the entire surf industry. In the video above, recently released by Firewire, Kelly talks about how the two met over previously unseen footage of him surfing on a 5’3 Cymatic in Hawaii.
