When one surfs at a place like Nazaré, one does not hope they don’t get rag-dolled. Instead, one expects to get rag-dolled and simply hopes for the best possible rag-dolling. It’s not a question. It is going to happen, and when it does, even the best possible rag-dolling still absolutely sucks. Need proof? Look no further than this tow-team rescue gone awry. After a relatively simple pick up, the sheer power of the water at Nazaré swamps an experienced ski driver.
“The jet ski was flipped by a huge foam-ball while the driver was trying to push through the whitewash,” explained Steve Cummings, the man who was behind the camera for the footage you see above. “The huge inside foam section is one of the worst places to be stuck. The powerful foam-balls make short work of anything in their way, as shown by how the 1,000-pound jet skis are thrown around like they’re nothing. Luckily, the ski team was able to return to the ski without injury. This is a good reminder of how things can go from bad to worse really quick here in Nazare.”
