The Nazare Big Wave Challenge is live from Portugal. Red Bull Television and the World Surf League are broadcasting the competition that consists of tow teams switching off in the giant surf.
Some of the best big wave surfers in the world are teamed up, like Nic von Rupp and Clement Roseyro, Lucas Chianca and Pedro Scooby, and Kai Lenny and Ian Walsh. And that’s just a sampling of the talented field.
Athletes compete in two 40-minute-heats. Their total scores are based on the two best waves across both heats, with the highest-scoring wave counting for double points. At the end of the event, surfers are recognized across three categories: Men’s Best Performance, Women’s Best Performance, and Best Team Performance.
