Getting an entire new quiver of surfboards all at once is a gift generally reserved for either pro surfers or regular surfers with too much money. Even getting just one new surfboard, however, elicits a Christmas morning kind of feeling, and Nate Florence, although he is one of the best in the world, is no different than the Average Joe. Here, the slab-hunting Florence breaks in a new set of sticks (Ghost, Next Steps, and Tank models, for those interested) along with family and friends.
The wave is not a normal one. It’s a big fat double up with an odd take off that sits in the face of the wave. Hard to navigate, surely, but if you’re Nate and you see this wave breaking, your heart gets beating a little faster than normal.
