Nathan Florence spends a lot of his time surfing. Most of it, we’d guess. Since he spends most of his time surfing in one of the surfiest places in the world, he spends most of his time surfing with other surfers who surf much better than the average surfer. Surfers like John John Florence, Ivan Florence, Billy Kemper, Eli Olson, Koa Rothman, Kiron Jabour, Kai Lenny, Albee Layer, Jamie O’Brien, and Russel Bierke, all of whom appear in Risk and Reward, the 11-minute film you see above.
It is, as the name implies, a film about risk and reward. There’s a lot of both in the surfing game. “The risks we take are extreme,” Nathan says. “They can be brutal, they can be violent. They can sometimes be the greatest survival experiences of our lives. But every once in a while they can be pretty damn fun. Here are some of our greatest fails on the road to victory.”
