Nathan Florence just took a trip to the Mentawais for the score of a lifetime. The slab hunter geared up with his usual crew, including brother Ivan and filmer Zoard, to hit up the Bilou resort on the famed Indonesian island chain. In between visiting the local scenery, settling in to their expansive villa and noshing on bread and cheese, the squad also managed to land some certifiably all-time great waves.
The latest video from the freesurfer and YouTuber starts off in a familiar place: the airport. However, while the requisite travel and accommodations footage are certainly familiar, the scene upon actually arriving at the lineup was anything but. From the moment the boat caught sight of the break, incredulous cries of “Holy shit” and “What?” began to ring out from behind the camera. As perfect, barreling wave after wave rolled in, it seemed everyone on board could tell the session going to be something special. The only appropriate response, of course, was to get out there and spend the next 12 hours hunting down the perfect tube.
Afterwards, as the crew gleefully compared sunburns from the marathon session, it seemed to be still sinking in just how incredible the whole thing actually was. “Pretty much one of the best surf days we’ve ever had,” summed up Nathan.
