Nathan and John John Florence were out somewhere in the Pacific Ocean, hunting for barrels. The scenario, as depicted in Nate Florence’s latest YouTube post, is not necessarily an uncommon occurrence for the two, but the waves in question certainly looked all-time.
It’s hard to say exactly where they are, other than somewhere in the middle of the Pacific. Based on the vast, blue expanse around their boat and the total absence of other surfers, it must be pretty remote.
Most of the video is shot from Nathan’s POV, including one hairy moment when he literally goes head to head with the shallow reef. From the vantage point of his mouth-cam, we see Florence take a tumble that sends him face first into the coral, breaking his GoPro mount.
Even after the near-disaster, Florence paints a rosy picture of the day: “Just me and my brother, and my two great friends, Eric and Zoard, on some deserted island in the middle of the Pacific, scoring barrels,” he says to camera after they retreat back to their boat.
However, despite riding what, to anyone else, would be the waves of a lifetime, Nate thinks they can mine even more from the mysterious break. “We saw a few that could have been the waves of our lives, but weren’t able to position for them,” he said “But [we] ended up getting barreled, today. Couldn’t ask for a better day or a better trip.”
