Well, the Super Bowl is all wrapped up. Mahomes and the Chiefs got soundly thumped by Jalen Hurts and the Birds. Somewhere, around 126 million people tuned in, which broke Super Bowl ratings records for the second straight year. With all those buffalo-sauce covered people glued to their screens and not surfing, it made for a good afternoon at Pipeline.
Nathan Florence decided to pick waves over football, and he was well rewarded. “The boys had a big night last night, so no one’s in the lineup,” Nate said. “They’re all hungover. Also, it’s Super Bowl Sunday. The game’s about to start, so everyone’s about to clear out and Pipe’s going off.”
Although it might still look a little crowded, by Pipeline standards it was a ghost town. “It was so mellow on the crowds,” Nate said afterwards. “So good. Me, John, Kelly, a few of the groms, and a few friends. It may look slightly crowded in the clips, but that’s uncrowded Pipe if you’ve seen the normal crowds.”
