The Inertia

When it comes to surfing heavy waves, one needs to have two things: talent and courage. Courage, of course, can often be written as “stupidity,” but if you’re aware of the possible consequences and willing to pay the price, it’s not stupid. It’s calculated. And one guy who knows exactly what he’s getting himself into is Nate Behl. He’s a guy who really likes surfing waves like Kandui Left, Greenbush, and Desert Point, so he’s spent a lot of time in the Mentawais – and Indonesia in general.

“Of course Kelly, Andy, etcetera are top of the list of the best surfers,” wrote Kandui Resort, “but ask any of our local surfing crew, and one name comes up every time without hesitation: Nate ‘McNasty’ Behl.”

In edit above, Behl’s talent is on full display, as are the consequences of wiping out in waves that’ll rip your head off.

“Nate has what we call the perfect combination of talent and stupidity,” Kandui Resort continued. “Talented enough to ride the heaviest surf in Indonesia and stupid enough to think any wave is makeable.”
