The Inertia

Hawaiian tube riding legend Mikala Jones passed away during a tragic accident in the Mentawais. Jones was staying at Awera Resort when he severed his femoral artery in his groin while surfing, resulting in major blood loss. The accident proved to be a tragic one and Jones passed away at just 44 years old.

Born and raised in Hawaii, Jones dedicated his life to traveling the world in search of remote surf spots. He split his time between the North Shore of Oahu and Canggu Beach, Bali, getting barreled more than any other surfer out there. Over the course of his career, Jones turned heads with his incredible tube riding skills and epic GoPro shots, and he landed multiple magazine covers.

Jones’s friends and family took to Instagram to express their sympathies and pay tribute to the surfer.
