February and March can be a tricky couple of months in Europe. There is a lot of rain, there are strong winds, and there are cold fronts. So when it was time for Miguel Blanco to wrap up another winter spent in Hawaii and head back to Portugal, the 22-year old opted to fly to Tahiti for the first time instead. His only objective was to just wait for a swell to come through, and that’s exactly what he did.
Miguel Blanco is one of Portugal’s most respected surfers right now. He’s a rising star thanks to both his progressive style and approach as well as his affinity for chasing slabs and big waves. He has six Hawaiian seasons under his belt and a bucket list of trips around the world crossed off (Australia, South Africa, New Zealand, Caribbean, Indo, the Maldives, and more). Miguel is making a name for himself and represents the future of Portuguese surfing.
Black Sands was filmed edited by Hugo Almeida, with additional footage by Nuno Dias, Salty Wings & Cole Yamane.
