Mick Fanning knows Kirra like the back of his hand. Just search for any of the best single-wave clips or most eye-catching images from the wave’s best days in the past two decades or so and White Lightning is most likely front and center in the frame. The two go together like peanut butter and jelly — each great on their own but a certain je ne sais quoi bubbles up when you put them together.
The above video is from a filmer who goes by the handle Surf on Mars on YouTube. The videographer has scores of highlight reels from that Coolangatta favorite and, unsurprisingly, a lot of them feature Mick. In fact, they have a collection of as many as 400 Mick Fanning clips over the years. Three minutes probably isn’t enough to pack in every one of those 400 waves of said particular pairing, but this reel gives a solid reminder of the connection Fanno has here.
