It was just announced that Snapper Rocks will once again be a stop on the WSL Championship Tour. That’s a good thing for the members of the CT roster, because it’s probably the only way they’ll get a ride on that wave without enduring 15 or so egregious drop-ins.
Recently, QS surfer Michael Dunphy finally had enough and exacted revenge on a particularly bold interloper. He grabbed a leash, took a pull, and managed to yank the offender right off his longboard. He may have also nearly decapitated someone paddling out immediately afterwards, but we’re just gonna gloss over that part, for now.
The moment comes courtesy of Australian YouTube channel Surf Days, and Dunphy’s stand against kookdom is only the start. The rest of the video has the full pantheon of Superbank villains, from ripping groms, to oblivious snakes, to the aforementioned longboarding terrors. Still, despite all the carnage and chaos, it’s hard not to envy Gold Coast surfers for having access to a wave as perfect as Snapper, even if it comes at the cost of one’s dignity and sanity.
What did Dunphy have to say about the whole thing? As he captioned on a repost to his own Instagram: “Got ‘em.”
