The Inertia

COVID did crazy things to a lot of people. Some got really sick (which sucked), others got really bored. And others focused that boredom into something…well, would constructive be the right word for the story above? Apologies up front, but I just couldn’t help it.

Elaine Janes, a Victoria resident who we won’t call The Bird Lady here, taught her chicken to surf during the pandemic at her local – Ocean Grove Beach, near the Australian town of Geelong. Now, she says the bird bodysurfs – but the only little waves you could see Mrs. Chook ride, as she’s affectionately called, are the ones below on the soft-top (and is that a Hypto Krypto?).  Calling it bodysurfing would be generous. She says her bird loves the water and you can see it in Mrs. Chook’s face. Call me crazy, but that looks more like a bird having a bath?

That’s not what Elaine thinks: “You cannot make a chook like the water, particularly the ocean, but this one has a passion.” The woman has also taught her chickens to skateboard. Like we said, boredom can inspire people to do interesting things. Teaching chickens to ride any type of board certainly qualifies.
