Check swell, check gear, check cameras. We are going to a reef with a left hand barrel. A secret spot in the middle of nowhere near a forest reserve in beautiful Costa Rica. It’s absolutely beautiful and absolutely magical.
Waves are pumping, heartbeat is pumping and some of Costa Rica’s finest surfers are putting on a clinic for surfing this wave, exiting crazy hollow barrels over two feet of water and a drained out reef. The crowd is thick but only a handful of people are really surfing this reef, scattering scary eyes, broken boards, heavy barrels and crazy wipeouts. There’s also a healthy amount of huge smiles and a lot of stories to tell after one of the best swells of the year
Pura vida.
