Waimea Bay took top billing in the surf-world headlines following the Eddie swell, and deservedly so. After all, we wouldn’t call it “The Eddie Swell” if the Bay hadn’t shown up as advertised on December 22, 2024, and allowed the greatest event in surfing to run. Jaws did its thing. Maverick’s went completely mental, as did the rest of California. But this is the routine we all go through when an XL or XXL swell pulses through the Pacific Ocean, giving at least 98.2 percent of our attention to its marquee big wave spots.
We rarely look to see how those same swells show up just south of the Equator, which is exactly what Lucca Mesinas shared this week. No tow crews. No dusting off the big wave guns. Just a bunch of open tubes in the Land of Lefts. Mesinas gave us a glimpse at three waves that clearly loved the Eddie swell.
First up is Cabo Blanco, the Peruvian Pipeline. While I did say there were no XL waves in this edit, Cabo Blanco shows off why it’s not for the faint of heart. Steep waves breaking over a shallow bottom and running through the lineup at breakneck speeds. Next up is an unnamed spot in Northern Peru. By the lack of crowds in each shot you can tell the locals navigate keeping the place “unnamed” to perfection. And finally, Mesinas moves on to another left-hand point break. This one won’t scare anybody but it sure as hells looks like a fun time.
