A huge swell rolled into Half Moon Bay (Maverick’s)in Northern… or Central California (depending on how you view it) October 18, 2023. Surfers from across the world showed up at Maverick’s to charge these early season big waves. I unfortunately couldn’t make it but luckily my friend (and fellow videographer) Austin Jet was there and shared his clips and stories with us.
“This is, for me, was crazy because I’ve watched Maverick’s for a long time and never been able to film it,” Austin told me. “To the guys that were describing it in the water, it was one of those once-in-a-lifetime moments in all its glory – big. On a couple clips you can see the barrel close and how it spits, and it was just like holy ****, wait what? This is crazy.’ Then across the line there were these huge waves that came in which seemed like it made it impossible to paddle out, the negative tide made it psycho. There were like 60 or 70 guys in the water. It looked like Malibu with 30-foot waves.”
