The Inertia

Beachbreaks are a fickle mistress. Subject to the whims of shifting sand bars to produce even a moderately rippable wave, most of them are simply closed out junk 90 percent of the time. Sometimes the stars, swells and tides finally do align, but even then it’s usually for just a few fleeting days.

However, there are a few standouts in the bunch. World-class beachbreaks like Puerto, Hossegor and Nazaré all  have unique bathymetry that funnels in swell to produce some of the biggest and meanest waves in the wold. Even then, they still require a little bit of luck and fate to really go off.

That’s exactly what happened for La Nord in the beginning of January, when the Hossegor peak decided to flex its muscles and Maud Le Car was there to take it on. You can see it all in the video above, courtesy of French YouTube channel Ripitup.
