The Inertia

Mason Ho may be best known for his daring freesurfing antics, but that doesn’t mean he can’t hold his own in a jersey. Recently, the rock-dodging phenom did just that at the Hawai’ian Islands Sunset Pro, as recounted in his latest YouTube post.

The QS 1000 event has a proud history (as Mason points out in the caption, he, Michael Ho, Bruce Irons, Gavin Beschen and Jack Robinson have all counted themselves as winners over the years) and this event turned out to be a worthy entry in the canon. Over three days of competition, a stacked lineup competed in surprisingly robust six to eight-foot swell. In the end, Eweleiula Wong and Luke Tema took victories in the women’s and men’s events.

Mason himself had a solid performance in the competition, making it all the way to the semifinals, before being eliminated in a heat against none other than Tema. The performance was all the more impressive for the fact that Mason was nursing an ankle injury from the recent Swatch Nines event.

As a bonus, the video also includes footage of Michael Ho, Coco Ho and Jake Davi hitting up V-Town on the same day Mason competed. Check it out below.
