The Inertia

Unless you were in coma and locked in an underground bunker with your ears plugged and your eyes blindfolded until right this second, you’re aware that the Eddie Aikau Big Wave Invitational happened. It’s an event that only runs when conditions are exactly right: meaning very, very good. And very, very big (see scary).

One of the best parts about it, aside from the fairytale ending, was the fact that, for the first time ever, a father and his son were surfing in the prestigious event: Michael and Mason.

Michael Ho is 65 years old, which is tough to believe, considering the fact that he’s still surfing like this and like this. Mason is 34, and he surfs in a way that only Mason Ho can surf.

Mason, due to surfing the way only Mason Ho can surf, very nearly had to pull out of the Eddie after a fin-inflicted leg wound. He would not, however, miss the chance to surf in the Eddie for anything. So surf he did. Here are a bunch of highlights and wipeouts courtesy of Mason’s YouTube channel, as filmed by Rory Pringle and Jake Hougified.
