Mason Ho is certainly one of the most fun surfers to watch. Give the guy a big wave, a big barrel, a big rock, or a big anything, and he’ll find a way to do something nuts with it. In the case of the Eddie, Mason found a massive backwash wave and hit the big red blastoff button.
Shorebreak antics are a crowd favorite when Waimea goes off. Andy Irons famously packed a giant shore break tube in front of a packed beach, and now it’s something that (hopefully) happens whenever the Eddie runs — which is rarely.
On December 22, the bay called the day. Landon McNamara won the prestigious event and Mason ended up in second place. There are no losers at The Eddie, though. The invite alone is a life-goal for any big wave surfer.
