The Inertia

Malibu and the Wedge. Both are iconic surf spots and dangerous places to ride waves for completely opposite reasons. Two iconic breaks in Southern California, but also for very different reasons. One is a postcard-perfect longboarder’s paradise. The other is a gladiator pit for wave warriors. But which is more dangerous?

Whether you’re a surfer, or just a lover of the ocean, you’ve probably heard of both. I’ve done a ton of filming at each. Malibu has crazy crowds that aren’t always versed in etiquette, which as we all know, can be really dangerous. The Wedge, on the other hand, is a beast of a mutant wave that breaks on six inches of sand. It’s really dangerous as well.

I decided to examine both to answer that question: which is more treacherous? Feel free to chime in as both waves could cause serious bodily harm.
