Koa Rothman and Makua Rothman surfing

The Inertia

Surf trips are one of the best things anyone can do. But for all the good, all those hours of traveling can be a miserable experience. Koa Rothman is a guy who knows that better than most, and he, like many others, has figured out that a good way to wash off the jet lag is by jumping in the water.

So, after 43 hours of travel returning home from Sipura Island — a trip that, judging from the footage, was certainly worth it — he awoke early to head from the Country to Town. And when there’s a big south swell in Town, there’s no place quite like Ala Moana Bowls.

Since the North Shore season is dusted, Pipe regulars like Koa and Makua Rothman and Mason and Mike Ho keep a close eye on forecasts. When the first big south swell of the season rolled into town, they decided to get their fix. They were far from the only ones there, but they definitely made do with what was on offer.

Although we don’t see too much of Makua Rothman’s surfing these days, this edit makes it clear that he’s still got it. It, and a whole lot more. Afterwards, they did the best thing one can do after a long flight and a long surf session: they ate. And then they went surfing again.
