It’s hard to imagine that not so long ago the idea of surfing with such a small, lightweight camera inside of a barrel was unfathomable. But today, in nearly every lineup, we see that the perseverance and creativity of those in the field of water photography has paid off. What used to be a struggle — such as carrying 28 pound camera on your back or only being able to shoot 36 frames at a time and having to get out of the water to change rolls of film — has now turned into something as accessible as carrying a camera (glued onto a PVC pipe) in your mouth and pulling straight into the barrel.
This video is my homage to the great pioneers of water photography such as Jacques Cousteau and George Greenough, those who have continuously inspired me in my work, not only as a surfer, but as a filmmaker as well.
