Lunada Bay is an interesting place. For a while there, some of the people who surfed it most were a tad aggressive about keeping their spot as uncrowded as possible. The “Bay Boys,” as they are/were known managed to bully would-be interlopers away from “their” wave for a long time, throwing rocks and screaming at anyone who dared walk past their fort made of stones. It’s a long story (read more about it here, if you’re interested), but one of the sentiments heard most about the wave the Bay Boys were so intent on keeping quiet was that the wave was not actually all that great. But like most waves, the quality of the wave depends on the day. And late in December, Lunada Bay turned into a wave so good you can almost understand why the Bay Boys were so hostile. Almost.
