When it comes to waves like Nazaré, it takes a certain type of surfer. A Nazaré surfer cannot only be a surfer. To be successful, they need to be part of a team, and to be a successful team, they need to also be an extraordinarily talented Jet Ski pilot. It’s part and parcel with surfing a wave that holds as much danger as Nazaré, and Lucas Chumbo is one of the best.
He, along with Nic Von Rupp, won the Nazaré Challenge recently, and Chumbo is known as one of the best, safest, and most talented pilots any surfer could have watching their back.
“Here’s a simple video to appreciate what Lucas is, not only as a surfer but also as a rescuer,” wrote Barena Film and Sports on YouTube. “On this occasion he saw that a teammate was in trouble and did not hesitate to go help, which for him not only means going to rescue to get his teammate out of the situation but also leaving everything on the field.”
