Nathan Hedge is 43. And Nathan Hedge can still ride barrels, really, really well. Take this as Exhibit A. The wildcard at the Tahiti Pro laid down one of the best barrels of the day today at the Teahupo’o – which is absolutely firing. Hedge pulled into a beautiful tube and then navigated the foam ball three times on his way to a 9.43. Hedge eliminated Filipe Toledo from competition. Toledo continued his string of head-scratching performances in heavy waves, failing to score higher than a 7.83 (he couldn’t snag anything close to that in his opening round, waiting most of the heat to take off on a wave). It was a poor showing for the Brazilian who still qualified for the WSL Final in September.
