When one thinks surf trip, Alaska probably isn’t the first place that comes to mind. But, as you might’ve noticed in the last few years, trips to cold-water surf destinations are becoming the new norm. Bigger crowds are part and parcel with surfing’s booming popularity, so more and more people are choosing to go and find somewhere with fewer people. Fewer, however, is usually for a reason. Cold water, difficult treks, or the simple fact that it’s easier to score good waves at an established break. But for those who want to go on the hunt… well, Alaska seems like a good bet, and if you can get it on its day, Bear Glacier seems like a particularly good bet.
