The Hurley Pro at Trestles has been full of controversy. After some questionable calls, the ire of the public and many professionals is focused at the judging booth–and it’s about ready to burn the place down. Medina’s pissed. Wilko’s pissed. Julian’s pissed. Hell, even Tom Carroll weighed in. So far, the WSL has refused to comment.
But what REALLY happens in those crucial minutes when a surfer’s fate is being decided? Is it a serious discussion, full of replays and arguments over a 1/10 of a point? Are there fist fights and face slaps and name calling and hair pulling? Does the head judge hold an iron gavel and scream at the others through a megaphone? Is his word law? Or are they just up there with their feet up on the table, eating pastrami on rye and arguing about pickles? And how great is the title of this!?
