The Inertia

Though The Eddie ended three days ago, some surfers are still living with the aftermath of the event. Laura Enever just posted an update on social media that she has finally been released from the hospital after an injury she sustained during the competition nearly threatened her life.

The day after the competition, Enever took to Instagram to post a video with an explanation of what went down. “I’m still in hospital recovering from a serious fin chop to my upper leg, a freak accident that happened when I was on the sand after I surfed,” she wrote. “The board hit me unexpectedly and awkwardly and the fin pretty much went all the way into my leg. A scary situation as we thought my main artery had been damaged. I was rushed to hospital for surgery where I found out I was millimetres away.”

On Christmas day, Enever posted another update, this one a photo of her on crutches, with a bandage on the injured leg. “Four days later we are fresh out of hospital for the last couple of hours of Christmas Day,” she wrote. “I’m soooo beyond stoked and grateful. Thank you everyone for the love, especially Jakey who’s been here to look after me and help get me home.”
