Larry Haynes was both an incredible talent in surf cinematography and a beloved figure in the surfing community. To remember his work, Nalu TV posted some classic raw tape of Larry’s from back in the winter of 1995, at where else but Pipeline. The footage was captured at the Chiemsee Pipeline Masters and the days around it.
The video has a parade of surfing royalty just casually appearing throughout, and it’s truly impressive how nimbly Larry manages to lock in an incredible shot, then duck out of the way before he gets pasted by a lip or speared by a ’90s potato chip. However, by far the best part is Haynes’ gleeful commentary throughout. At one point, after the GOAT takes a header right in the middle of a barrel, Larry wryly comments, “There ya go, Kelly. You’re human.”
