The Inertia

Laird’s built a life around unapologetically being himself. And while his personal life is well-documented, and he’s certainly no stranger to the limelight, every time he sits down for an interview it would seem new details about the man’s life emerge. Recently, Laird and his wife Gabby each sat down with Graham Bensinger to discuss their lives together – akin to two titanic supernovas melding together into a power couple of unparalleled athletic prowess.

The pair are incredibly candid with Bensinger discussing, for instance, a time back in 2001 when they nearly split. “Is it true that you could drink two bottles of wine a night?” asks Bensinger. “Easy,” says Laird. “He was a lunatic,” says Gabby. But at one point a switch flipped.

“I could drink a couple bottles of wine every single night, wake up at 5 o’clock and train for five hours and ride giant waves and do that for years on end,” explained Laird. “But, the residual effect of that on my family and my friends is not productive.”

The series of clips is rich interesting details about Laird and Gabby’s daily routines, their lives, and more. Here are a few highlights:

On a fat as fuel diet…

On being bullied for being white…

On getting speared through the cheek…

On being a parent…

On surfing in the Olympics…
