The Inertia

San Diego surfers just had a week for the history books. In fact, nearly every part of California saw insane bumps in surf size, from the Bay Area to Southern California. While the largest waves were seen at famous big-wave spots like Maverick’s, a few select breaks also saw XXL monstrosities. First we witnessed Black’s Beach popping off as a result of the megaswell. Meanwhile, over in Ventura, Rincon was bigger than many had seen in decades. Now we’re seeing some equally epic footage from La Jolla Cove.

The most remarkable thing about this video is that it’s rare to see La Jolla Cove even break. While the nearby reefs are home to some great surf, the cove really only comes to life under a huge swell. Luckily, that’s exactly what hit last week. This video, courtesy of the YouTube channel MAde By BLAE, shows the cove serving up waves that are not only uncharacteristically ridable, but truly massive.
