The Inertia

Scoring your home break during its peak season is great. Getting skunked for most of that peak season is not great. But flip that equation around and suddenly things get interesting: your home break turns on when you least expect it, offering up a pleasant offseason surprise.

La Gravière wasn’t exactly dead flat this past winter and fall but as filmmaker, David Berthet described it to The Inertia, it was ” a sandbank that didn’t work very well.”

Fast forward to the middle of summer and Berthet and a handful of Hossegor surfers were treated to an offseason surprise.

“For about three hours, La Gravière served up some nice barrels groomed by a light offshore breeze,” he says.

The session featured some A-list talent from the region, including Jeremy Flores, Benjamin Sanchis, Joan Duru, Marc Lacomare, Sam Piter, and some other familiar faces most often seen chasing these same barrels in the Northern Hemi’s winter months.
