When Hossegor gets too big, there aren’t too many takers. There are some takers, however, and on Friday, February 25 through March 1, there were some diamonds to be found.
The conditions throughout the swell varied, as conditions often do, but there was one perfect half-hour period when everything came together. “All the elements aligned on Friday, February 25, 2022 (size, offshore wind, period) to give birth to monstrous tubes,” reads the description on the Rip It Up YouTube channel. “Incredible caverns ridden by a handful of crews including the experienced duo, Benjamin Sanchis and Marc Lacomare.”
And while Sanchis and Lacomore did indeed score, the man who stole the whole show was Kyllian Guerin. On March 1, he took off on what he called “the wave of his life,” squeezed out a doggy door that was more of a barn door, and got properly pounded.
