The Inertia

The best way to prepare for surfing is by surfing. That’s an ethos North Shore freesurfer and YouTuber Koa Rothman took to a whole other level by preparing for today’s Eddie Aikau Big Wave Invitational with a nimble strike mission to pumping Jaws.

“It was good Jaws session, everyone’s in safe, thankfully, just a couple of little cuts,” summarized Rothman, upon returned to shore afterwards. “All in all, it was a very, very good Jaws section, just because we’re all okay and we’re fine to surf The Eddy. No one got injured. That was what I was really worried about, and that’s kind of why I wasn’t pushing it too hard.”

From there, it was a quick jump back to Oahu, where the real work began. With just a day to go before a possible Eddie, Rothman and crew paddled out once again at an already pumping Waimea, for a quick and casual warmup before the main event.
