The DaHui Backdoor shootout is one of the best events in surfing, largely because it isn’t focused solely on surfing. Entrenched in the background of the contest is respect for the Hawaiian culture. The opening ceremony is an interesting look into a culture that is slowly being forgotten, and it’s a reminder that it shouldn’t be.
