When you get a chance at an uncrowded day on the North Shore, you take it. It doesn’t matter how or why. That’s exactly what Koa Rothman did in his most recent video.
“There’s no one out and the whole CT’s here right now,” explained Rothman at the top of the video. “Usually, Rockies has 30-100 people out, no matter what, even if it’s first thing in the morning or the sun’s already gone down.”
Unfortunately, the reason was that conditions really just weren’t that great, though the North Shore local didn’t let that deter him. “This is a little bit of a rare moment, here on the North Shore,” Koa continued. “I think everyone thinks it’s too terrible to surf, because the weather’s been so bad. Expectations aren’t too high, just going to be happy to go find a couple of fun waves.”
The people who skipped out on that day may have been right, as Rothman returned decrying the fact that he spent the majority of the session duck diving slop. It’s an entirely relatable moment, from a surfer who’s day-to-day life often differs pretty drastically from the average surfer. It’s nice to know that, even with talent, sponsors, and Pipe on your back doorstep, some things never change.
Luckily, he gets to make up for the disappointment later in the edit, with a session in much more favorable conditions. Check out the rest below.
