The Inertia

It’s fall, which means announcements of the beginning of the North Shore winter are coming in fast. At the forefront of the fanfare for the season is Koa Rothman, who recently posted another surf edit, along with an explanation for his seemingly early call.

“Last day of our first swell of the season,” he explained to camera, after a few surf edits at Rocky Point, along with some behind the scenes footage of one a concert performed by his brother Makua. “I put something on my stories today saying ‘first swell of winter’ and I got lit up in my DMs about how it’s fall, still. I know it’s fall, but in Hawai’i, there’s pretty much only two seasons: summer and summer with waves.”

“I know it’s not winter yet, it’s technically fall, but here in Hawaii we consider this winter because we’re surfing North Shore. The water’s still 80 degrees, which is really nice. Everyone’s showing up again. It’s been just the Rocky Point festival with Nate, John, Eli, Ivan.”
