A few months ago, Anthony Walsh was sitting across from me in a restaurant in Portugal. He was eating a bowl of spicy clams or something, if I remember correctly, and I was eating an octopus, which I felt vaguely guilty about. He told me that Koa Rothman is charging Pipeline harder than anyone else. When asked, he answered without even thinking about it. Koa Rothman is charging so hard that, in a sea of Pipe chargers, one of the best Pipe chargers in the world didn’t have to think about his answer. That says a lot, doesn’t it?
So when Koa says that “this was some of the best Pipeline I’ve seen in my life,” you can be sure that it was very good Pipeline. This whole season, in fact, has been an amazing one for Pipe surfers, and despite the fact that the season should be just about over, Pipe swell after Pipe swell after Pipe swell just keeps tripping over the world-famous reef.
