The Inertia

If you have not yet had the pleasure of a mai tai from Lei Lei’s on the North Shore, do yourself a favor and put it on the list. They are, as mai tais should be, very strong. And if there is a good time to have a very strong Lei Lei’s mai tai, it’s after surfing in the Pipeline Masters around a table with a bunch of close friends. Which is exactly what Koa Rothman did.

The Pipe Masters looked pretty different this year — a different group of surfers, a different format, etc. — but it was a great success. The waves absolutely went off for the final day, and John John Florence and Moana Jones-Wong took the wins. Koa didn’t end up doing as well as he would have liked, but he still got to surf his favorite wave in the world with just a handful of other surfers out, so it’s unlikely he’s all that disappointed. And if the night starts at Lei Lei’s and ends on a sweaty dance floor… well, it was probably a good night.
