Back in September, Kelly announced that he was recovering from hip surgery. The significant procedure was a result of an injury he sustained at Bells a year prior and had been bothering him ever since. With three months out of the water, he was forced to find other ways to pass his time, like palling around with third-party candidates.
Now, it looks like he’s fully back in action. Just last week, Kelly was filmed at Haleiwa, surfing 4 to 6-foot waves in a lineup packed full of other big names. Now, thanks to a video from YouTube channel Off Da Lip, we get a look at how the new hip is holding up against Pipeline.
“After his hip surgery, surf aficionados were all curious as to how the GOAT would handle the recovery,” reads the description for the post. “Well, after watching this video, you would probably never guess that he recently underwent a heavy medical procedure. Today he displayed some knife like carves, typical Slater-esque aggression, and superb wave selection.”
