Kelly Slater has surfed at the Surf Ranch more than most people. He had a hand inventing the thing, after all. He’s not a shoo-in for the best surfer there, however, but he sure can claim local status and if anyone is dialed into the wave’s nuances, it’s the guy who built the bottom. Rumor has it that he fell on the very first wave the Surf Ranch pumped out, and you can bet that someone, somewhere, is sitting on that footage. Out of all the waves Kelly has surfed at the Surf Ranch, which one is the best? Well, some are saying that it was the one in the quarterfinals of the WSL’s Rumble at the Ranch. Who “some” is isn’t exactly clear, but it’s a damn good wave.
“At 1:37 check what some are saying is Kelly Slater’s best wave ever at the Surf Ranch,” the WSL wrote. “Watch the heat highlights from the quarterfinal matchup between Kelly Slater/Sage Erickson and Carissa Moore/Seth Moniz. Between these two teams, there are 15 World titles!”
And while Filipe Toledo definitely had the wave of the day, Slater’s wave is just classic Slater.
