When Kelly Slater showed up in Bali mid-pandemic, there was a buzz about town. He’s the GOAT, after all, and Bali is a place where surfing is more than a little important. He was there for quite a while, too, and his visit coincided with a run of swell that hadn’t been seen in years. And, since there was a global shutdown, that run of swell also happened to coincide with a crowd as light as it was back in the ’70s. Given all that, it was a sure bet that some very, very good footage would come out of it.
“There was a real buzz when word got out that Kelly Slater was in Bali,” wrote Surfers of Bali. “He’s the GOAT, the person from our sport who is most recognizable amongst non-surfers, so it’s no surprise that all eyes were on him whenever he took to a lineup. He surfed a lot during his time in Bali, timing his trip with some of the best Padang Padang sessions of the year, but also spending a fair amount of time in the water at Uluwatu and Keramas.”
