Podcasts are everywhere these days. Koa and Nate have one. You’ve certainly heard of Ain’t That Swell. The Waterpeople, created by Lauren Hill and Dave Rastovich is a must-listen. There’s the WSL’s The Lineup, too. And slightly outside of the surf realm, there’s Steve-O’s Wild Ride!
In Steve-O’s latest podcast, he wrangled Kelly Slater into the van. “You don’t get greater of the greats than Kelly Slater,” he began. “I mean, come on. When the guy got in the van, I was genuinely starstruck. I had to kind of keep myself under wraps, which I managed to do until the end.”
Over the course of their conversation, they covered a lot of ground. Shark attacks, Slater’s time on Baywatch, big wave surfing, the UFC, injuries sustained by both parties, dealing with the deaths of friends who died surfing, and much, much more. Kelly’s a tough guy to lock down for interviews, but Steve-O is… well, he’s Steve-O. Slater joins a pretty high-end guest list that includes Neil deGrasse Tyson, Shaun White, Tony Hawk, Bert Kreischer, Ronda Rousey, Shaq, Dana White, and many, many more.
“I’m just wildly impressed by him as a person, as an athlete, everything,” Steve-O said. “All across the board. This guy is epic. He’s the greatest of all time.”
